Blood or water?

Mason, a 16-year-old, was at home playing games on the PC. It was a hot day and he wanted to eat ice cream. His mother told him to take a shower first. He went to the bathroom and started taking the shower like he normally would. He couldn't see anything as the soap had blurred his vision. Once the soap was washed off his eyes, he noticed that the color of the water was strange. It was dark red and it kind of smelled like....blood! He quickly dried himself with a towel, got dressed, and went outside. He had promised his friends to meet them so he headed out. 

He was hugging his friend when he noticed the same sort of blood smell coming from him. When Mason told his friend about everything, he just laughed and told Mason that the water was completely normal. The same smell was coming from everywhere, but no one else seemed to notice. This only lasted for about 4 days. 

Years later, when Mason was 30, police came to his house. Finally, years later, the mystery was solved. It turned out that a cruel and brutal murderer had attempted to hide his crime by replacing water with blood.
