The Biggest Mistake
After Simon’s death, James couldn’t take any
chances and moved in fear that the force will come after him too. Years passed
and he finally decided to apply for a job. He wanted a job in which he could
get prosperous fast. One day he was just scrolling on his phone when he found a
job. Some rich people were hiring a butler and the salary was impressive. He
went after it and got the position
After weeks of working there, James started
thinking of the people there as a second family. He was allowed to go to any
room except for the basement. James was curious about the reason but he didn’t
want to interfere in other people’s business.
One day the family was going on vacation leaving
their trusted butler, James, to take care of the house. James was just doing
his job when he found a key on the floor. The owners of the house only had two
keys. The one for the front gate and one for the basement. James already had
the key for the gate so he figured that the key he found was for the basement.
James knew it was wrong, but his curiosity got to him. He took the key and ran
the ground floor.
He twisted the key into the lock of the basement’s
door and the old door creaked open. There was pure darkness in the room. The
room seemed empty at first glance but it wouldn’t make sense for someone so
kind to be possessive over an empty room. James went inside the room, the door
being shut ceiled behind him. Due to the darkness, James tripped multiple
times. He fell on a chest filled with old books and a flashlight which
conveniently worked. The basement was more spacious than he thought. He flashed
the light around and found out that the basement was a labyrinth with no exit,
a maze with no prize. He was lost.
There was a piece of paper on the floor that read;
“there is a way to escape. Find 3 clues, you have an hour. The clues will lead
you to me. I can help.”
Desperate, James quickly started hunting clues. He
first found a piece of paper that read; “At the.” The sentence was incomplete
and the other words were most likely in the next two clues. The first one was
easy to find but he knew that the rest wouldn’t be.
He tried his best but would always reach dead ends. James was getting irritated. He later found a red, pale book and found the next clue in there. The clue read; “door.” James still couldn’t make out exactly where as there multiple doors all were leading to mazes.
James was flashing lights everywhere in hope of
finding the last clue so he can leave. He would first look around and then
examine everything piece by piece. This process continued until he found a vent
on the floor. Without thinking, he jumped down. When he got there he found the
3rd and last clue. It read; “behind you.”
James put all the clues together and confirmed that
the door is behind him. He got up and looked behind him. There was a small, kid’s
size door. James knelt down and crawled through it. There was a small figure
spread on the floor. It was sealed.
James gulped and went closer. There was a window as
well. If James wanted he could jump out the window for freedom or investigate
the figure. He had a choice but no idea what was right and what would be the
biggest mistake of his life. He decided to unzip the cover. There was a corpse
of a dead child. Shocked, James stepped back.
Then, weird smoke started coming out from the body.
It turned out that the smoke was actually the child’s soul and James had
somehow set it free. You may think that the child’s soul would be happy with
James, but he looked like the murderer to the child. The soul started chasing
him and led him to a room. James swore that he never killed anyone, but the
soul didn’t believe him.
The child’s soul shattered into particles and those
particles started orbiting James. It got darker in the room and James felt a
sudden pain. The pain got sharper and so did the soul’s giggles. James exploded
and was in the position of that soul. The child’s soul was free now, but James’
soul was to be trapped for eternity until he finds a victim. And so, James was
punished for something he never did.
